Floyd H. Riley, 87, was born at Fountain Hill on February 25, 1915, and died at Sacramento, CA, on December 17, 2003, of a heart attack. He attended schools in Fountain Hill and Hamburg and was raised on the family farm near Berea. He was a descendant of early Ashley County settlers James Cooper Riley (great-grandfather) who help lay out the town of Hamburg and Joseph Holmes Riley, (grandfather) who served as county judge A farmer at heart, he also was a carpenter, shipwright, office machine repairman and merchant. During the depression, he worked for the W.P.A. in Jerome. During World War II, he worked for Kaiser Shipyards in Richmond, CA. During the early 1950s, he moved his family to South Lake Tahoe where he and his wife Oberlin established Tahoe Office Supply. After selling Tahoe Office Supply in the mid 1970's. Floyd worked for the Livermore, CA, school district until he retired.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Oberlin French Riley, originally of Montrose. In his later years, he married Evelyn Cox and then Myrtle Holder. Both preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his father and mother, J. W. "Bill" Riley and Novella Morrow Riley, and two younger brothers, Kenneth and Arthur, and his sister Polly Riley Estelle. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, of which he was active as a deacon and elder. He was also a former member of the Kiwanis Club, Nature Club and Camera Club. Floyd enjoyed fishing, hunting, CB radio, and his computer.


He is survived by his sons and their wives, Ron Riley and wife Bente of Sacramento and Charles Riley and wife Jere of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; daughters and husbands, Nina and Fred Stephens of Placerville, CA, and Suzy Bob and husband Bruce of Sacramento, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He also is survived by a brother, Billy Riley and wife Irene of Fountain Hill, and sisters Mattie Pearl Kilcrease of Hamburg, LaVon Roden and Jayne Allen of Oklahoma and a sister-in-law, Billie Sue French Watson and husband Bill of Crossett.

Mr. Riley was buried on January 3, 2004, beside his wife, Oberlin at Westwood Hills cemetery in Placerville following services at the Placerville Adventist church.
