Dorothy Kay Abel, 60, of Waco, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at a Waco care facility. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at Gatesville City Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from noon until service time on Tuesday.

Dorothy was born in Gatesville, Texas, to the late Robert and Vivian (Grant) Johnston. She received her BA degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1986 while working fulltime. She retired in 2002 after 20 years with the State of Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. After retiring, she went to work for McLennan Community College, teaching ESL classes. She did volunteer work for Hillcrest Hospice and Jeffery Place in Waco. Dorothy was a member of Lakewood Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Walters.

Survivors include sister, Cynthia Walters, of Georgetown; nephews, Richard Mullen, of Arizona, Bryan Walters and Grant Walters, both of California.
