Father Folta was born in 1869 in Sanok in southeastern Poland. He studied at the Polish Seminary in Detroit and was ordained in 1898. His first assignment was at Sweetest Heart of Mary at age 30. During the twenty years of his pastorate, he worked energetically at improving the physical plant of the parish. He built a new rectory, redecorated the church, and improved the entire parish plan.
He was very fluent in Polish and English and was known for his oratorical and administration skills.
He did not like the limelight of the press and politely avoided it at all cost as he realized that the American press often ridiculed the Poles.
