He was born Oct. 27, 1926, in Davenport, to Leo and Hazel (Brier) Francois. He married Mary Ann Ries on June 19, 1948, in Davenport. During World War II, he served in the Navy aboard the USS Gavia and USS Holland. He was honorably discharged in 1946. His memberships included Davenport Masonic Lodge 37 A.F.&A.M., Davenport Consistory, Kaaba Shrine and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 178, where he was a past patron. In addition, he was a former deacon at First Presbyterian Church and had served as scoutmaster of the Lincoln Elementary School Cub Scout Pack. He deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed camping and square dancing. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or First Presbyterian Church, Davenport, where he was a member.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his daughter, Marcia Francois, Yucca Valley, Calif.; his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Pat Francois, Davenport, Jeffrey and Carol Francois, LeClaire, Iowa, and Joel and Lori Francois, North Berwick, Maine; his grandchildren, Robert III, Christopher, Paul, Jeremy, Ryan, Matthew and Kelsey; three step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Viola Vollstedt, Port Byron, Ill.; and his brothers, William Francois, Port Byron, Joseph Francois, East Moline, and Richard Francois, Arlington Heights, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Alice and Rosella; and his brothers, Leo Francois Jr. and Arthur Francois.
