Mr. Jessie Willard Smith, 87, of Hamburg, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Crossett. A native of Parkdale and a resident of Hamburg for the past 50 years, he was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He owned Smith Furniture Store in Hamburg for 22 years, and he was the yard supervisor for the Ashley County Road Department until retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Martinville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Joyce Dailey Smith of Hamburg; a nephew, Buford Hayes of Florence, OR; and two nieces, Marilou Hayes of Memphis, TN, and Martha Locke of Quitman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin & Nannie Gill Smith and a sister, Vivian Smith Hayes.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 8, in the Martinville Baptist Church with Revs. Robert Wood and Edward Gulledge officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. at the Stuart Walkerville Cemetery in Walkerville. Pallbearers are Don & Joey Hartley, Bobby, Johnnie & Jimmy Martin and Gene Bates.
