Obed Lamar Gandy, 71, a resident of Loxley, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 at his second home in Escondido, Calif.
Born in Mobile on July 29, 1942 to Obed Larue Gandy and Olene Boling Gandy, he was the oldest of eight siblings.
He was a 1960 graduate of Robertsdale High School and entered the United States Marine Corps shortly afterward. While stationed at Buford, S.C. he met his wife, Carolyn Pechmann and they were married in 1964.
During his time of service his travels carried him to many places. He spent time in Japan and was a Vietnam veteran. He was also in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983 at the time of the bombing.
After 28 years of service he retired as a master sergeant and eventually settled in his hometown of Loxley.
He and his wife started the Gandy Accounting business. They bought their second home in Escondido, Calif. where their son, Richard and his family lives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Obed Larue Gandy; and mother, Olene Boling Gandy.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Pechmann Gandy; a son, Richard Lamar Gandy; daughter-in-law, Grace Garza Gandy; granddaughter, Angelique; grandson, Christian; two sisters, Frances (Terry) Lidgard of Loxley and Bernice (Royce) Jerkins of Stapleton; five brothers, Glenn (Mary) Gandy of Lillian, Larry Gandy of Robertsdale, Jimmy (Debi) Gandy of Fairhope, Phillip Gandy of Loxley and David (Rosemary) Gandy of Robertsdale; a special aunt and uncle, Carolyn Boling Garcia and Donald (Johnnie Lou) Boling of Pensacola; and any nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held in Vista, Calif. at North Coast Church on Aug. 4, 2014, with burial at Miramar National VA Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.
