Corinne Pulliam Quayle of Wickenburg, Arizona died Thursday, November 27 at her home in Wickenburg.
Corrine was born June 12, 1922 in Franklin, Indiana and grew up in Lebanon, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Eugene C. Pulliam, longtime owner and publisher of the Arizona Republic and the Indianapolis Star and the late Martha Ott Pulliam of Lebanon. She was the mother of former Vice President Dan Quayle.
Quayle graduated from DePauw University with a BA in May, 1943. She married her college sweetheart, the late James C. Quayle later that year in September. While at DePauw Quayle was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and several wartime service clubs.
She was a homemaker. Quayle and her husband owned and published the Huntington Herald-Press in Huntington, Indiana and the Wickenburg Sun in Wickenburg. She was active in the Tri-Kappa sorority and a board member the Salvation Army.
In 1978, they moved to Wickenburg, Arizona. Quayle was a member of the Desert Caballeros Western Museum and a founding member of the Humane Society of Wickenburg and helped build the present shelter.
Quayle was preceded in death by her parents and husband and a brother, Eugene S. Pulliam of Indianapolis.
She was survived by a sister, Suzanne Murphy of Bethesda, Maryland,; her children, Dan Quayle of Paradise Valley, Arizona, Chris Quayle of Scottsdale, Arizona, Martha Thomas of Monticello, Wisconsin and Mike Quayle of Cleveland, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
