Daughter of Michael Patrick (Born 26 Nov. 1880 in Ireland) and Veronica Canavan Mulcrone. Her sister is Margaret Mary Peters of Yorktown, Virginia.

Helen married Alexander J. Smolla and together they had one daughter Sharon Kay Smolla Lavell.

She had worked at Carroll County Courthouse and Savanna Army Depot.

Helen died at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center in Rock Island, IL following an extended illness. Visitation was at Law-Jones and the funeral at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna, IL. Burial was at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Savanna.
