Funeral services for Charles O. Lee, Jr., 88, of Leland will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. He died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at his home. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery with Military Honors under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.

Mr. Lee had resided most of his life in and around Leland. He was born in Lake Village, AR to Beulah Sally Terry Lee and Charles O. Lee, Sr. on August 1, 1925. He attended the Leland School system. Mr. Lee served in World War II as a Marine and after being discharged he reenlisted and served as a Sargent in the Korean War. After the war he worked for John Allen Collier as the manager of his Gin and Delinting company in Leland. On February 25, 1959 he married Annie Marie Johnson Bassie in Leland. He worked for the City of Leland until his retirement at age 65. He spent his retirement years with his beloved wife Marie, his family and friends.

He is survived by two sisters, Anna Bell Steward and Betty Freshour both of Seymour, IN; two sons, Kennie John Bassie, formerly of Miami, FL (who retired and came back to live in Leland to take care of his step-father), and James Carrol Bassie, Sr. of Greenwood. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Mr. Lee was well liked in his community and was loved very much by his family. He was always helpful, kind and generous to all who knew him. He will be very much missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
