Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," April 9, 1956:

Robert E. (Ed) Amelang, 74, of Bloomfield route 3, died at his home at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, following an extended illness.

He was born August 22, 1881, in Green township, Wapello county, the son of Franz and Hannah Plouchentz Amelang. At the age of three he moved to a farm in Davis county, where he spent the remainder of his life.

He was married to Lillie Dyer, December 13, 1905, in Ottumwa. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Albert Amelang and Frank Amelang of Grand Junction, Colo., and Carl and Everett Amelang, both of Ottumwa; four daughters, Mrs. Anna Smith of Bloomfield route 2, Mrs. Marie Boas and Mrs. Betty Fowler, both of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Mary Skinner of Clifton, Colo., 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by one brother, John Amelang of Bloomfield route 3, and four sisters, Mrs. Rosa Minor and Mrs. Martha Skinner, both of Ottumwa, Mrs. Cora Evans of Monterey, Iowa, and Mrs. Minnie Orman of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:3- p.m. in the Johnson funeral chapel, in charge of the Rev. W.B. Friend of the Pentecostal Church of God. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ancel Gilland, Forest Smith, Everett Rime, Louis Courtney, Leo Leonard and Jack Rater.
