"NEWSOME HAD LEG CUT OFF: WAS AT WORK UNDER PASSENGER COACH WHEN CARS WERE SHOVED AGAINST IT, CAUSING COACH TO RUN OVER HIM. NO CHANCE FOR RECOVERY. // J. H. NEWSOME, a car repairer in the employment of the Central of Georgia railway, was run over this morning at 10:35 o'clock and had one of his legs cut off. He was rushed to the city hospital as rapidly as possible, and it was announced this afternoon that there was no chance for his recovery. // According to the report of those who saw the accident, or the ones first to reach him after it happened, NEWSOME was under a passenger coach doing some work, and the switch crew, not knowing that he was under the coach, shunted some cars against it, which caused itto pass over NEWSOME. // It was stated at Central of Georgia headquarters that car repairers are always required to hang blue flags on the end of the string of cars where they are working, so the switch crews will know that someone is at work about the cars. It was stated that Mr. NEWSOME neither hung up the blue flag or notified anyone that he was at work under the coach, and that it was not discovered until a cut of cars eighteen cars away had been shunted against the coach under which he was working. // Everything possible is being done for the injured man at the city hospital, although there is no chance for his recovery, according to a report from that institution. The many friends of the unfortunate man greatly regret to learn of his serious accident." [Columbus (GA) Ledger newspaper, Friday, 20 DEC 1912, p. 12.]

"Mr. Henry NEWSOME is Laid to Rest: YOUNG MAN WHO WAS INJURED BY TRAIN FRIDAY DIED FROM HIS WOUNDS LATER IN DAY. // Henry NEWSOME, who had his left leg cut off by a passenger coach passing over it Friday morning, died Friday afternoon. His death occurred at the city hospital, where he was taken immediately after the accident, but it was seen from the first that there was no chance for his recovery. // The Torbett Undertaking establishment took charge of the body and prepared it for burial.
