Charles' family moved from Duluth to Eau Claire before he was 3 and he lived the rest of his life in the 9th Ward. He loved to discuss local history and share his extensive first-hand experiences, volunteering at the museums in Carson park. From the time he was a young child, he took full advantage of the many outdoor activities in and around town, from ice staking and swimming on the Half Moon Lake, to ski jumping, hunting, fishing and golfing across the state. He also was a tremendous dancer, with music always playing in the house in case the mood stuck him. Charles graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School and was employed by Holsum Bakery for nearly 45 years. He served in the U.S. Navy near the end of WW II. He was an excellent baker and cook and love to share what he made with family and friends. A joyful, optimistic man, he always saw his cup as being half full. He had an uncommon zest for life and was grateful for his "many blessings". He was a caring husband and father and a good neighbor. He will be nearly missed. He had four children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
