Junior Roger Campbell

Junior Roger Campbell "Cowboy", 82, of Amherst, Virginia, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 26, 2014, after a short illness. Cowboy is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Rachel Mays Campbell.

He was born in Amherst, Virginia on October 6, 1931, to the late Suzie Wright Campbell and the late James Buck Campbell and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Carson Campbell, James Campbell "Buck", Calvin Campbell, Kerry Campbell, and Ray Campbell and his sisters, Loving Bryan, Elizabeth Jennings, Sadie Wilkerson, and Bettie Watts.

He committed his life to the Lord at an early age. He retired from Griffin Pipe after 32 years of service, was a jouster for many years and continued to be a very active farmer after retirement.

He is survived by his four sons, Roger (Sylvia) Campbell of Gladstone, Mike (Vicky) Campbell of Amherst, Tony (Gail) Campbell of Madison Heights and Timothy (Tracy) Campbell of Amherst, and six daughters, Barbara Dalton of Hurt, Nancy (Kenneth) Watts of Amherst, Teresa (Joe) Crouch of Amherst, Sarah (Marty) Ogden of Amherst, Rose (Gary) Evans of Amherst, Christy (William) Kreuziger of Madison Heights, and a son-in-law, Douglas Dalton, of Gretna. His love for his 34 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren was overwhelming. One brother, Tomie Campbell of Monroe, a multitude of nieces and nephews and in-laws, and a lifetime friend, Harry Johns of Amherst, as well as many other friends that he referred to as "Partner", survives him.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, June 30, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., at Clifford Baptist Church, Clifford, Virginia, with the Reverend Dr. Michael Fitzgerald and Reverend Jeffrey Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroe Church of God cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Clifford Baptist Church and at other times at the residence.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Matthew Tatum and Central Hospice for their continued support during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Centra Hospice, 3300 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia 24503 or the church of your choice in his honor.
