Thomas had a life-long career in carpentry. He was retired from Temple Builders and was the owner and operator of Absher Rentals. Thomas was a member of First Christian Church, New Century Sunday school class, and served as an elder, deacon emeritus and many other offices in the church. He was a United States Navy Seabee, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post No. 191 and V.F.W. Post No. 2646.
At the time of his death, Thomas was grandfather to one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by brothers, Earl V. Absher Jr. and Chester T. Absher, as well as sisters, Leona Davis and Juanita Baker.
