Charles Aldan "Dan" Ferrell on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Age 72. Brother of Kay Alicyn Ferrell and her husband Richard Gibboney of Greeley, CO and the late Frederic Perry "Ricky" Ferrell. Uncle of Nanette Briggs and her husband Norman of Seaville, NJ; Fritz Ferrell and his wife Kathy of Waxhaw, NC; and Galina Leiphart of Arvada, CO. Grand Uncle of Connor, Nicholas, Erica, & Olivia Briggs, Xavier Ferrell, and Benjamin Leiphart. Son of the late Charles Benjamin and Marjorie Nute (nee Golde) Ferrell. Dan earned his Bachelor's degree at Franklin & Marshall College and did Post-graduate work at Glassboro State College and Gloucester County College. He was a former Elder, Clerk of Session, Treasurer, and Sunday School Teacher for the First Presbyterian Church of Clayton. Dan was on the Borough of Clayton Historic Advisory Committee, Clayton Historical Preservation, Inc. as a recording secretary, Clayton Borough Council, Clayton Board of Education President, Shades Inc. Secretary, Wilson Lake Memorial Park Trustee, National Guild of Hypnotists and Reiki Master, former Mayor of Clayton and Gloucester County Mayors' Association President. Dan was a "gentle giant," known for helping others as much as for his height. He was an ardent sports fan, playing basketball and tennis in high school and college, coaching both girls and boys athletics, and attending his nieces' and nephews' athletic events whenever he could. Dan taught History, Social Studies, World Culture and Civics at Clayton High School, his Alma Mater for many years. He is remembered by his students for his caring attitude toward others, the way he made history come alive, and for "putting his money where his mouth is"- he not only taught government and politics, he was actively engaged in the political process and never stopped giving back to his community. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Clayton, 205 N. Delsea Drive, Clayton, NJ 08312. Funeral service at 11:00 AM at the church. Interment Manahath Cemetery, Glassboro. For those who so desire, contributions may be made in Dan's memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Clayton at the above address.
