Egyptologist James Terence DuQuesne, known as Terence DuQuesne, was born Terence Deakin. At the age of 13 he was issued with a British Library reader's ticket, and by 14 was translating hieroglyphics. A classicist, he spoke 5 languages, and at the age of 22 published his first book "Catalogi Librorum Eroticorum: A Critical Bibliography Of Erotic Bibliographies And Book-Catalogues". Other major works included translations of poetry and monographs on the use of drugs. Works in his chosen field were published by the specialist Durengo Publications and under the auspices of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. He also contributed to the on-line "Encyclopedia Of Egyptology".

Although he was very much a ladies man, he never married and died without issue. His death in a Croydon hospital at the age of 71 was the result of a stroke he suffered at his Norbury home. After a small Pagan ceremony at All Saints Church, New Cross on June 19, 2014, he was cremated at Honor Oak Crematorium.
