Funeral services for Gerald Don Gregory, 63, Wimberly, were Friday May 20, at the First Christ Church in San Marcos, with Lin Penland officiating. Graveside services were Saturday, May 21, 2005, Westlawn Memorial Park in Dimmitt.
Mr. Gregory died Tuesday, May 17,2005, in Austin. He was born July 21, 1941, to Jack and Jo Gregory in Dimmitt, where he graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1959. In 1962 he married Ellen Jones of Olton. He graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1963 with a degree in marketing. After graduation, the couple moved to Dimmitt to help manage the family business, Castro County Grain, with his brother, Bill and his father, Jack. He was active in the community of Dimmitt. He was a member of the 4th & Bedford Street Church of Christ, where he served as Deacon and enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes. He was elected to the Dimmitt Independent School District board in 1977 and served until 1985. He served on the board of directors of Camp Blue Haven, a Christian youth camp in New Mexico from 1985 to 1997. He also served as a member of the Lubbock Christian College Board of Directors from 1977 until 1983.
Mr. Gregory helped manage Castro County Grain until 1986, when he accepted a position as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch in Amarillo. The couple moved to Amarillo in 1987, where they attended Central Church of Christ. He retired from Merrill Lynch in 1997 and Mrs. Gregory retired from teaching in 1999. They moved to Wimberley. They attended Holland St. Church of Christ in San Marcos where he served as Elder until death. He served as president of the Overlook Homeowners Association and was an officer in the Woodcreek Men's Golf Association.
Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by his father, Jack; mother, Jo; and daughter, Angela.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; son, Keith and daughter-in-law, Linda; daughter, Rebecca; grandson, Taylor; two granddaughters, Taryn and Tate; and many relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials be sent to the Lubbock Children's Home, PO Box 2824, Lubbock, TX. 79408, the Medina Children's Home, 21300 State Hwy 16-North, Medina, TX. 78055 or a favorite charity of your choice.
