He was raised by his mother, Eva (Wenzel) Keyser Jones and step-father Jack Jones, in eastern South Dakota and attended high school in Wessington Springs.

Lloyd worked on farms until early 1942 when he was drafted for service in World War II. He entered Army training at Ft. Leavenworth, Kans., for six weeks before being sent to Honolulu, Hawaii. Although farming remained his chief occupation he was a police officer in Rushville, Nebr., in the 1960's; worked for Boyer's Meat Co., and later for Rushville Oil Co. in the 1970's and '80's. He was a member of the Amnity Masonic Lodge #169 and the American Legion Post #161. He was a sportsman and enjoyed hunting and golfing with family and friends.

Lloyd was devoted husband and loving father, his family and friends will remember him as an honest and gentle man who treated everyone fairly. He was brave and patient throughout his illness and thought constantly of his family and their welfare.
