Mr. Abbe was a graduate of Deerfield Academy and Dartmouth College and served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in the banking industry for many years.In 1951, he married the love of his life, Joan Rowell Abbe, or "Dodie," of Akron, Ohio. They moved to Bedford in 1958 and then Concord in 1983 to work with the state Legislature as a lobbyist for banking issues. Charlie and Dodie made many friends whereever they went. They were members of the Concord Country Club and the Boca Royale Country Club, in Englewood, Fla., where they wintered for the last 20 years. In Englewood, Fla., Charlie hosted a holiday "Doggie Party" for all his dog friends and their owners in the Florida neighborhood.Charlie's favorite place was the family log cabin on Abbe's Island in Pierce Pond, Maine. He helped establish the Maine Wilderness Watershed Trust, creating easements protecting the watershed of Pierce Pond forever. In addition to fly fishing, his passions included golf and playing his luck at any casino.
