James Hite Boren, 102, lifetime resident of the Hawkeye area, died at Waynesville General Hospital on Thursday, June 27, 1985, where he had spent the last few days. Mr. Boren was born Feb. 27, 1883 to James "Jim" and Catherine Setser Boren, one of 13 children. In 1904 he was united in marriage to Zelphia Ellen McDowell, daughter of William (Bill) and Sarah Legion McDowell.

To this union was born three children, Orville, Frank and Pearl. Mr. and Mrs. Boren celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary before she passed away in 1969 at the age of 82. He continued living alone with the help of his family and friends who lived nearby and thoroughly enjoyed visits from those who took time to come and sit awhile just to reminisce.

On Sept. 16, 1953, he accepted Christ and joined the Baptist Church in Hawkeye near his home. His funeral services were held there on Saturday with burial in Hawkeye Cemetery under the direction of Crocker Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Caldwell officiating.

He is survived by one son, Frank Boren of Crocker; and one daughter, Mrs Omer (Pearl) Cochran of Iberia; one granddaughter; five grandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son Orville; also three children who died in infancy; five sisters and four brothers; and his parents.
