My Father's Brother Harold

In The Group Photo Harold Is Age 26 Standing To The Far Left. His Hand Is Wrapped (boxer). It Is The Day Of Their Mama's Funeral.

His VA benefits were being stolen while being cared for in a Los Angeles VA hospital.
Story Below.

He was the 1st child of 8 born to Henry and Annie "Laura" Simpson.

At age 11, on Thanksgiving Day in 1923, a horrific car/train accident claimed the life of his father Henry Simpson. Henry was not at fault. His father was only 37. Harold age 11, was the only other passenger in the vehicle and he was thrown from it. He miraculously survived. His youngest brother James "Jimmy" was later born posthumously in April 1924. His father had co-owned the Hope Ice Company in Hope, Arkansas. All who knew his father shared in this heartbreak.

Eventually, he went into the Navy. Boxing was his passion. He had a strong mindset and temperament for boxing as a skillful art. There were no children from the marriage of he and his lovely wife Evelyn. The passing of his beloved Evelyn left him empty and lost. The Masonic fraternity gave him brotherhood, strength and a path to find his way.

At the time his health was failing he still had four siblings, and cousins across the USA. He needed to be cared for in a VA hospital in Los Angeles, California. At some point a staff member started collecting his VA benefits. Please Read ... When my veteran uncle passed away his body was put in with other bodies on hold for a group cremation to be buried as an unknown at a pauper's funeral. Two of his brothers, Herb my dad and uncle Richard residing in Washington state, were notified of Harold's passing. My dad Herb contacted their cousin, Thomas Gordon, in Riverside, California. The staff member was caught and I don't know their punishment. That is how Harold came to rest in his own Riverside plot.
