The funeral for Dorothy Barber will be 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Charles City, Iowa, with the Rev. Ruth Yeaton officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

Mrs. Barber, 77, of Charles City, formerly of Austin, died of pancreatic cancer Sunday evening (June 13, 1999) in Muse Norris Inpatient Unit of the Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.

Dorothy Mae Baxter was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Austin, grew up there and graduated from Austin High School. On Feb. 14, 1954, she married James H. Barber in Austin and they moved to Charles City in 1955. Her husband worked for Oliver Corp.; he died in 1995. Mrs. Barber raised, trained and showed horses. She was a member of First Baptist Church, a Bible school leader and a Girl Scout leader, and a seamstress. She enjoyed the outdoors, crocheting and embroidering.

Survivors include a daughter Lynda (Mrs. Robert) Bucknell of Thornton, Iowa; three granddaughters, and two brothers, Floyd and Dick, both of Austin. She was preceded in death by a son, a brother and four sisters.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
