DEATH WAS SUDDEN

Mrs. Alice Eppinger, wife of Henry
Eppinger, of Mahoning township, was
suddenly called from the scenes of life
Saturday afternoon. Death came In
a sudden form and with scarcely a
moment's warning.
Mrs. Eppinger, who resides near the
Harbor Bridge, left to visit a neighbor
at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. On arriving
at her friend's house she appeared
in her usual health and spirits and
chatted pleasantly for some time. Little
did either know it was to be their
last conversation on earth.
Mrs. Eppinger returned home about
10 o'clock and was immediately taken
violently ill. Convulsions supervened
and by the time the physician, who was
hastily summoned, had arrived, she
was past human aid and care.
The rupture of a blood vessel in the
head was diagnosed as the cause of
death, the spasms superinduced by the
former.
Whether the walk to the neighbors,
which was not a great distance away,
in the hot sun, had anything to do
with the fatal result is not determined.
Her sudden death was a terrible
shock not only to her immediate family
but to the entire community in
which she dwelt.
Mrs. Eppinger passed away about 1
o'clock, a little over two hours after
the appearance of the first symptoms
of illness.
She was 49 years of age and the mother
of nine children. They are, Mrs.
Henry Douglass, Mrs. John Coulter,
Mrs. Louis Ward, Miss Mattie Eppinger,
Charles, Newton, Edward, Harry and Alice.
The deceased was a woman of noble
qualities of heart and mind. An
affectionate and congenial helpmate to
her husband, a self-sacrificing and devoted
mother, a steadfast friend and
an obliging neighbor, her life was one
of beautiful and beneficent activity and
her death causes a loss which will be
severely felt.
The services attending the funeral
were held this afternoon at the
Harlansburg Baptist church at 2:30 o'clock.

Obituary published in the New Castle News, New Castle, Pennsylvania on Wednesday 10 July 1901 on page 10.
