He was a veteran in the War of the Rebellion; Capt. of Co. F, 11th Regiment Wisconsin Volunteers. He died from disease contracted in the service. He was in fourteen battles; went through the siege of Vicksburg, the taking of Fort Blakeley and Spanish Fort, Mobile, Alabama and in other important battles, -never receiving a scratch. At one place his canteen was spoiled by a bullet, and in several others he had narrow escapes. He had a fine physique, being over six feet tall, erect, well proportioned and weighing over 200 pounds.
