Newton Ulysses Crawford was born on his family farm in Bado, MO April 5, 1918 and died May 25, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Homer and Bessie Crawford , his sister Juanita West, and his beloved wife of 61 years Juanita Allen Crawford who died in 2006.
He is survived by his sister Dortha Hosey of Springfield; his son Newton Jr, Newton's wife Barbara; and their 10 children, Rachel of Melbourne, FL, Brittany Gaines of Eldon, Sonny of the home, Amanda Meyer of Springfield, Sarah of Houston, Sam of Houston, Ben of the home, Jill Adams of Rolla, Daniel of Houston and Martin of Houston. Newton is also survived by 20 great grand children.
Growing up, Newton loved to fish and hunt; hobbies that followed him throughout his life.
He enlisted in the Navy in early 1940 and served with honor through World War II, the Korean conflict, and the early phase of the Vietnam war. He rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer-4 and was the senior warrant officer in the US Navy when he retired in August 1968. In the navy, Crawford was a civil engineer and served in the Seabees.
In retirement, he returned to the family farm and raised angus cattle and registered angus bulls.
He was the last surviving member of the Union Baptist Church, the oldest baptist church in Texas County.
Mr Crawford will be sorely missed by his large family.
