He was born in Erie, Pa. on Jan. 18, 1938, the son of the late Clarence and Ann (Zelinski) Francis. He graduated from Academy High School in Erie in 1956 and was employed at Hammermill International Paper for 42 1/2 years. He also had owned and operated Instant Heartburn Sausage Trailer for many years.
On July 4, 1986 he married Shirley Swanson Barnes, who survives. They enjoyed traveling, driving to Alaska and all of the lower 48 states. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Mt. Jewett and St. John's Lutheran Church in Erie, Pa.
Surviving relatives include one son, Ronald Francis of Erie, Pa.; one daugher, Barbara Cunningham of Niceville, Fla.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman Francis of Erie, Pa.; three step-children, Pamela Stahli and Victoria Parrish both of Mt. Jewett and Michael Barnes and his girlfriend, Jane Griffin of Palmer, Alaska; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Francis:and first wife Joann Gustafson Francis.
Friends may call at the Cummings Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday in Nebo Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Darrel Justh, officiating. Interment will be in Nebo Cemetery.
