Brother of James Coy Watson, he served as the manager of the Los Angeles Bureau of Pacific and Atlantic Photos which was one of the biggest international syndicates in the United States. Watson started as the first photographer for the ‘Los Angeles Times' in 1917 and by 1925 was head of the photo department. He later founded the Los Angeles Press Photographers Association and served as its first president. Watson retired in 1940 while working as manager of the ACME News Photo Syndicate. In 1972 the Los Angeles County Museum of Science and Industry put on a retrospective entitled "The History of Los Angeles in the 20th Century, as Seen Through the Lenses of the Watson Family." Watson was in the hospital for nearly a month prior to his death, his illness is unknown. He resided at 521 Lake Shore Drive in Los Angeles.
