Tonya Sue Adkins, 59, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, April 25, 2009 at her home.

She was born on February 3, 1950, in Ft. Madison, IA, the daughter of Johnnie Lee Adkins, Sr. and Gladyys Little Adkins. She married Cecil Barnes in 1969. The later divorced.

Tonya grew up in Montrose, IA and graduated from Central Lee High School in Donnellson, IA with the class of 1968. She moved to Keokuk in 1995.

She had been employed at the Ordnance Plant in Middletown, IA, Fruehauf in Ft. Madison, IA and Sasco in St. Louis, MO.

She enjoyed going to garage sales, antiquing and collecting cobalt blue dishes. Tonya loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survied by two daughters, Tera Hart and her husband Jason of Ft. Madison and ERica Hawkins and her husband Stacye of Keokuk, her father, Johnnie Lee Adkins, Sr. of Montrose, three brothers, Randall McCarty and his wife Susan of Montrose, David Adkins and his wife Mary of Donnellson and Johnnie Lee Adkins, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Donnellson, seven grandchildren, Cody Barnes of Donnellson, Carissa & Carey Kay and Tiffanee Hart all of Ft. Madison, and Shea, Gage and Mercedes Hawkins all of Keokuk.

She was preceded in death by her mother and grandparents.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with father Paul Connolly officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery in Montrose, IA.
