IN COLLISION
MTC Laurence Trevor Arney, 22, was fatally injured when the police motorcycle outfit he was riding overturned after coming into collision with the rear of a motor car on Henley Beach road, Thebarton, last night.
MTC Arney, with MTC B. Stringer as bis sidecar passenger, was travelling along Henley Beach road, returning to the City Watchhouse.
The accident occurred about opposite Danby street Constable Arney swung his outfit to avoid the car. but the front of the sidecar struck the rear of the car. The outfit overturned, throwing the two officers out.
They were rushed in a civil ambulance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where Constable Arney died soon after admission, Constable Stringer was allowed to leave after treatment for shock and lacerations.
Constable Arney, who lived at Second avenue, Sefton Park, joined the SA Police Force as a junior constable in 1944. During bis training he served for some time in the CIB. He joined the Motor Traffic Branch in March 1949.
