BENTON -- Leroy Akin, 76, went home to be with the Lord at 11:06 a.m. May 14, 2014, at his home after a three-year battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 29, 1938, to the Rev. Raymond and Ida Mae Akin.

He married Vickie Priest (Curtis on April 20, 1991, in Joliet.

Mr. Akin is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Vickie Akin of Benton; his children, Ricky Akin of Barstow, California, Mark Akin (Deanna) of Purcell, Oklahoma, Robert Akin (Connie) of Luttrell, Tennessee, Sandra Rector of Halls, Tennesse, Darren Akin and fiancée, Lisa of New Port Richey, Florida, Jackie Hiller (David) of Lemont, Nicole Watson (Timothy) of Bryan, Texas, and Anthony Priest of Benton; sister, Betty Hammond of Benton; brothers, James Akin of West Frankfort, and Gary Akin (Barbara) of Benton; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Shirley Akin of Streator, and Sharon Akin of Benton.

Mr. Akin was preceded in death by his parents; by brothers, William Akin Chris Akin and Clifford Akin and by sisters-in-law, Rose Akin and Bonnie Akin.

Lee was a Teamster for more than 30 years working in Chicago, then he moved back to Benton to be with his family.

He accepted his Lord on May 5, 2014.

Lee was a loving, father, husband and friend. He loved gardening and his animals.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with Pastor Chris Hammonds officiating. Burial will be in Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
