Helen L. Horner Gardner, 85, died at 11:10 PM Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, in Regency Place; she had been in failing health since January. Born Feb. 8, 1914, in Chicago, she moved to Lafayette after graduating from Upland High School. She married Leonard D. Gardner on Dec. 6, 1941, in Bloomington; he died Sept. 7, 1978.

Mrs. Gardner formerly was employed in the accounting department at Ross Gear and the Indiana State House. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Larry Gardner of Shawnee, KS; a sister, Ruth Smith of Frankfort; and a brother, Bob Horner of Huntington. Service Oct. 11, Hippensteel Chapel, the Rev. Phil Emerson officiating; entombment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
