Evelyn, is the wife of Judge Benjamin Smith , she is the daughter of Alvah Woodall & Clara Wilbanks Woodall ...(her parents divorced when she was a small child @ 5 yrs old)..

Evelyn worked with her husband as his secretary at his Law firm office on Albany Ave. ( the building is now tore down ), across the street from the Ware County Court House...
Every one who knew her will truly miss her , she was a wonderful women, she was a member of the Al-Anon Family Group who she helped out with family problems when she could....

The family will receive friends on Sunday , at 4 pm at their home at 1707 Oconee Road in Waycross.... Music's Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements....

Evelyn's Grand parents :
Thomas McDonald Wilbanks (1863-1956) & Sarah Elizabeth Porterfield (1868-1956)
influenced her to go out and do what she could in life to make her happy and she did when she met her husband and raised her children ...

a daughter named after her Evelyn Smith Beaumetz of Chicago, Illinois ,
three sons:
Benjamin the 3rd ( Mimi) Smith of Blackshear ,
William Lawrence (Freda) Smith of Savannah and
John Randall (Debbie) Smith of Waycross....

..Evelyn W. Smith, 86, died Wednesday afternoon (May 7, 2014) after a short illness. She died peacefully at Hospice House on Beacon Street while surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Judge Ben Smith Jr.; her children, Ben Smith III (Mimi Smith), Bill Smith (Freda Smith), John Randall Smith (Debbie Smith) and Evelyn Beaumetz; her grandchildren, Jamie, Austin, Raleigh, Christopher, Sarah, John Jr., Carmen, Lane, Emma and Jes; her brother, Alvah "Bubba" Woodall; and her sister, Jenny Lee. She was the daughter of Alvah and Clara Woodall, but she was raised predominantly by her grandparents, Thomas and Sarah Elizabeth Wilbanks, of Fort Meade, Fla., and her aunt and uncle, Nell and Quincy Robitsch, of Waycross.

She worked for many years as her husband's secretary at the Ware County Courthouse and at his law office on Albany Avenue. She loved the law and was well-known for helping people who had no other resources. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved nothing more than doing things for and with her family. She was a member of the Al-Anon Family Group and helped many people who struggled with issues related to alcoholism/addiction.

She was member of First United Methodist Church. Her other interests included fishing, cooking, cleaning house, politics and reading. She was an active member of the Ware County Democratic Party.

Memorialization will be by cremation.

The family will receive friends Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Smith home, 1707 Oconee Road, in Waycross. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to First United Methodist Church, 401 Williams St., Waycross, GA 31501 or to Hospice House Satilla c/o Hospice Satilla 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501.
