My maternal grandmother was a kind woman. She raised six children in a tenement, in Providence, R.I.
My grandmother's youngest daughter, auntie Linda, was born with a very serious heart defect. My grandmother took the train from Providence to Boston Children's hospital often. My mother, Barbara had to help with the other children when grandmother was away.
I remember Linda's nails, and lips always had a bluish color.
Linda's brothers' as well as my dad carried her up and down flights of stairs.
She was not allowed to play like a normal kid,and missed out on all the teenage fun.
When my auntie Linda turned 18, she had a new surgical operation. It changed her life.
My auntie fell ill in summer of "77". She was taken to ER. The doctor in charge gave her the wrong medication, and she died soon after.
My dear grandmother was never the same after losing her youngest daughter.
Grandmothers' oldest son, Domenic became Major of Police, and her youngest son, Michael became the Fire lieutenant, and my grandmother's daughters married and had children.
My grandmother had a very hard life, and her children did what they could to give her a happy life in her senior years.
We love and miss you forever more, Grandma.
