From this marriage was born the following known children: Charles Warren Escue 1880 – 1950; Lucy Ola Escue 1886 – 1962; Wiley Veach Escue 1890 – 1951; William Riley Escue 1894 – 1916; John Henry Escue 1897 – 1950.
In the 1880 census Elijah and Dona had been married about a year. Dona's two children by a previous marriage, Melton 6, and Toss 3 were living with them.
The 1900 census disclosed that Elijah and Dona were owned a home in Justice Precinct 1, Coke Co,, Texas. Elijah and their 20 year old son Charles were both employed as mail carriers. Lucy Wiley and William were all in school and John was a toddler.
The 1920 census told that their home was paid for on Austin Ave. in Robert Lee, Coke Co., Texas. Elijah was reaching retirement age and was working at odd jobs. John "Henry" was married, and he and his wife were living with them. Henry too, was working at odd jobs.
From family sources it was learned that Dona, better known as Donnie by her family, had died on Aug 2, 1921. Her tombstone has an inscription "Thy Will Be Done" and reads Donnie A Wife of E.W. Escue. The cause of her demise is not known. Elijah gathered his family and friends around him at the Valley View Cemetery, Coke County, Texas, as they buried his beloved Donnie, wishing her to "Rest in Peace"
Texas, Death Certificates, confirmed that Eliga W Escue died on May 6, 1949 in San Angelo, Tom Green, Texas.
His death certificate further revealed that he died at the Shannon Hospital in San Angelo from Post Operative Shock. Surgery on May 2, 1949, confirmed that he had been suffering from Extensive Carcinoma of the Prostrate. He exhaled his last breath at the age of 93 years 7 months and 18 days, when his spirit returned to God his creator. His body was taken to G.C. Cannon Undertakers to be prepared for burial at the Robert Lee Cemetery. His son John Henry Escue was the informant for his father. John Henry gathered his family close around him as they buried their beloved father, grandfather and friend to bid him farewell, and to "Rest in Peace" (Bio By Audrey DeCamp Hoffman)
