Ms. Cheryl Ann Ables Allred, 53, daughter of Wayne Ables (deceased) and Lee Ables Foster and her husband, Rick, died peacefully at 9:25 a.m. on Aug. 1, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Sherry leaves behind her husband of 32 years, R. Michael Allred Sr.; two sons, Robert Michael Allred Jr. and Steven Brice Allred, and a granddaughter, Shayla Ashton Allred. Sherry is also survived by her brother, Michael and wife Hariett, and daughter Heather of Jacksonville, Fla.

Sherry received her nursing training at Forsyth Medical Center and worked as an RN at both Forsyth Medical Center and Baptist Hospital. With the onset of rheumatoid arthritis, her career was shortened, and as the condition worsened, she was forced to retire. Sherry battled this crippling disease for more than 20 years, courageously facing each additional challenge with strength and the determination to continue her life to the fullest. A real animal lover, Sherry often found comfort from her Yorkies, along with her books, her close friends and her family.

The cremation service is provided by Memorial Funeral and Cremation Services. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4 in the church sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held immediately following the service at the family home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation Carolinas Chapter, 5019 Nations Crossing, Suite. 217, Charlotte, NC 28217, or to First Presbyterian Church, Winston-Salem.
