Melvin was the 6th of 7 children born to Olaus Mathiassen Angvik and Karen Aasenhus.

The family immigrated before Melvin's birth from Tingvoll, Møre og Romsdal, Norway and they arrived in New York on Sept 18, 1915. Olaus, Karen, and his older brother and sisters Gudrun Elise (Rodenberg), Magnus, Carl, Esther Burns Dies, and Othar "Art".

They settled as farmers first in Aneta, North Dakota where Melvin was born. Then they moved to Rapelje, Montana where his younger brother Norman Richard was born. The family relocated in the mid 1920's to Seattle, Washington.

In 1953 he married Virginia J Dame. Early in his career he worked in the engine rooms on freight ships before his tour of duty in the Coast Guard and later he worked as an engineer in a local hospital.

Conceived in Norway, Melvin was born in North Dakota, December 9, 1915, and arrived in Seattle with his family at age 9.
He attended schools in Seattle and Stanwood where he graduated.
He joined the Coast Guard in 1942 and proudly served his country for 3½ years. He was also a lifetime member of the Masons.

Mel leaves behind his "J. P."; loving children, Karla (Steve), Karol and John, adored grandchildren, Arn and Sarah; brother, Norm, many nieces and nephews and, lastly, Diva, Thor, Indie and Mango.

Dad, take a deep breath and enjoy your next walk. You were one of the good ones, and we'll miss you.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Washelli Cemetery.
