American Artist and wife of famous French Art Nouveau architect Hector Guimard (1867-1942). Member of a wealthy New York family of Jewish origins, she met Hector Guimard as an art student in Paris, and the couple married in 1909. In 1938, the Guimards, fearing the increasing anti-semitism in France and sensing an eventual German occupation of France, moved to New York, where Hector Guimard died in 1942, forgotten by his countryman, despite a rich legacy of many famous buildings and architectural works. Adeline Guimard spent much of her later years trying to preserve her husband's legacy until her death in 1965.
