Marguerite Catherine Hoole Walton of Irvington, Virginia passed away peacefully April 25, 2014 with her family by her side.
Surviving are her three children, James R. Walton (Judith), Nancy W. Succop (William) and Jody W. Bundy (Mark); six grandchildren, Kimberly W. Succop, James W. Succop, Stacey M. Succop, Mark C. Bundy, Jr. (Polly), Miller W. Bundy and Meredith A. Bundy; two great grandchildren, Mark C. Bundy, III and Graham E. Bundy; a sister, Victoria Doane; a sister-in-law, Nancy W. Follansbee and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Miller Walton.
Marguerite was a very competitive 100 meter free style swimmer, who was selected to participate in the 1940 Olympics, but the Olympics were cancelled due to World War II. She volunteered to join the U. S. Army Nurses Corp and served as First Lieutenant in the European Theatre of Operations.
After her military service, Marguerite resided in Pittsburgh, Pa. for 37 years with her husband and children. She was an avid golfer at Oakmont Country Club and was a Nutritional Instructor for St. Margaret’s Memorial Hospital for 20 years.
In May 1984 she and her husband retired to Irvington, Va. where she continued to enjoy golfing at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
