US Congressman. A member of the Democratic Party, he served Pennsylvania's 11th district in the United States House of Representatives from 1980 until 1981. The son of longtime Pennsylvania State Representative James Musto, he served with the United States Army during the Korean War and later attained his Bachelor of Science degree from Kings College in Pennsylvania. Musto had helped run his family's grocery store and worked for the local fire department, prior to initiating his career in the political arena, when he was elected to Pennsylvania's House of Representatives, as he succeeded his father after the elder Musto's death in 1971. Musto won a special election to finish the term of longtime United States Congressman Daniel J. Flood, who resigned in April 1980. After an unsuccessful bid to win his own term, Musto returned to the Pennsylvania Legislation, as he served in the state senate. He retired from politics in 2010. Upon leaving office, he was accused of accepting money for favors however, he never faced trial as his health was deteriorating. He died of complications from liver disease.
