He was a loyal citizen of the Lawson community all of his life.
He began as a farmer as a child with his Dad, farming until 1980. In 1972, he became a school bus contractor, a business that continues today as Hill Bus Transportation.
Everything that John did, he did with a passion. He developed a love for car racing professionally with Kimball Bros. from 1969-1972.
John served as City Alderman of Lawson.
He was a long time member of the Old Union Christian Union Church and most recently, of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
John was preceded in death by his father in 1972, his first wife, Lova (Pollard) Hill and daughter, Teresa in 1969; his son Jay in 1976; and his mother Mina, in 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hill, of the home; step-daughters, Mylinda Peoples of Lawson, MO, and Kim Schmitz of St. Joseph, MO; one brother, Don Hill and his wife Carolyn of Liberty, MO; one sister Jane Akers and husband, Ronnie of Lawson, MO; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services December 31, 2004, at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty, MO, with Rev. Vernon Armitage and Rev. Terry Smelcer officiating. Burial will be in the Old Union Cemetery, E. of Lawson, MO. Arrangements by Polley Funeral Home, Lawson, MO.
