Parents - William Guiltz and Mary Klaspar(both born in Germany)Mary died about 1896 from Influenza and William died a short time later about 1897. No information where they are buried. Family name was changed when they arrived in this country about 1890. Original name was Von Der Goeltz.

Siblings - William Guiltz, August Guiltz, and Henry Guiltz. (Henry died Honesdale Pa. 1935. where live for several years)
The children were separated at the time of their parents death and sent to orphanages. John was sent to a Catholic Orphanage/work farm up in Keeseville, NY. He was around 7/8 yrs old. He ran away several times. He was removed from there when he was 17 yrs old by Father McGovern of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Valley Stream, NY. He was to work around the parish church/rectory and drive Father McGovern where ever he need to go.(1906)
