Greensboro - Mr. James Roland (Bob) Jones, 90, died Friday April 18 surrounded by his family.

He was born February 14, 1924 in Guilford County to the late Carl and Mary Jones. Mr. Jones joined the US Air Force November 28, 1942 and was stationed with the Army Air Forces 711th Bomb Squadron. He flew in 14 combat missions in a B-17 aircraft over enemy occupied territory of France and Germany before being shot down over Germany and spent the last years of his service in Dulag-Luft Prison Camp. Mr. Jones received many decorations and citations for his service, including: American Theater, EAME Ribbon, two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal, one Bronze Cluster, and a Victory Medal.

Mr. Jones worked for many years for Philadelphian, John B. Kelly's brickwork contracting company, traveling as a troubleshooter and supervisor from Washington DC to Florida.

Mr. Jones is survived by his loving wife Jessie Lee Jones; his son Joe Jarvis; grandchildren Lisa Barmer, Larry Jarvis, Jerry Jarvis, Jr. and 2 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his first wife Marilyn Barker Jarvis Jones, son Jerry Jarvis, brothers Clyde Copeland, Edward Rankin, sisters, Jettie York, Evelyn Logan and Thelma Perdue. He will be missed by many friends and extended family.

Visitation will be 12 noon Monday April 21 at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 North Elm Street. A 1:00 pm gravesite service will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 North O'Henry Blvd. Pastor J.R. Gossett will officiate.
