With some of the Social Security systems showing June 1, 1910 as the birth date of Marianna Popiełuszko, the latter came from Grodzisk, where she was born to a farming family. Marrying Władysław Popiełuszko in 1942, the couple had five children, the third of whom, Jerzy having become a priest, due to his involvement with the Solidarność movement was brutally murdered by three agents of the Polish communist internal intelligence agency in 1984. Beatified on June 6, 2010, Marianna was well enough to attend the ceremony, presided by Cardinal Angelo Amato SDB. She passed away at the city hospital of Białystok.
