Funeral services for James Cody Avery will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Steve Galloway officiating. Interment will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is entrusted with arrangements. Mr. Avery passed away on July 14, 2014 at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon, Ms. he was 94 years of age.

Mr. Avery was born on February 6, 1920 to the late Vernon Peg and Sudie Brown Avery in Louisville, MS. He was a graduate of Cooksville High School and he attended East Mississippi Junior College. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served in World War II. He served as a member of the Noxubee County School Board for 36 years. He was a dairy and beef cattle farmer and a member of First Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances Avery; sister, Pauline Mullens and brother Hurley Avery.

Mr. Avery is survived by his sons: Jimmy and Charles Avery both of Macon, MS; and sister, Evelyn Slay of Pearl, MS.
