Mr. Withers was born May 13, 1922 in Lillian, Texas, a son of Richard C. and Ruby Mackin Withers. He was raised in Lillian and graduated from Alvarado High School in 1939 and then attended college for two years. In 1943 he was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and was awarded a Bronze Star and a World War II Medal for his service. Mr. Withers was Honorably Discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1946 and upon his discharge he settled in Mansfield, where he owned and operated a grocery store business. In 1962 he retired from the grocery store business and moved to Morgan, Texas. He began his ranching career and still had cattle at the time of his death. On June 6, 1981, Mr. Withers married Bonnie Harrison in Mansfield, and together they made their home in Lakeside Village.
Makin took the time to know people as individuals and to show them how much he cared about them.
He knew and loved his cattle in the same way and had them all eating out of his hands.
He will be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Withers of Lakeside Village; son, Scott Withers of Grapevine; daughter, Lisa Fallon of Austin; step-son, John Harmon; 5 Grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Sue Leonard of Houston
