Wanda Faye Turner was born November 30, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to John and Alice Rutherford. She left this life to be with the Lord forever Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the age of 81 years, 3 months, and 29 days.
She grew up in Tulsa, graduating from Tulsa Central High School in 1951. She came to Christ in 1950 and after she was saved at North Lewis Baptist Church was baptized at Springdale Baptist Church in Tulsa (because her church didn't have a baptistery), along with her sisters that same day. She was married to Jack Turner on October 11, 1952 in Tulsa, and they made their home in Broken Arrow, Wichita Falls, Texas, Haskell, and Tulsa, until they moved to Broken Arrow in 1986.
God blessed their home and family with seven children, and (really) 26 grandchildren (3 preceded), 23 great-grandchildren and even five great-great-grandchildren. Wanda loved and raised her family and kept the house. Years later she worked for Zebco, Tulsa Public Schools and the University of Tulsa in Canteen Food Services, and also for the Broken Arrow Public Schools for over 10 years…as a wrapper, sandwich wrapper, serving in the lunchroom at two different schools.
Wanda had many loves in her life- the Lord, serving in church and singing in the choir; her husband Jack, they enjoyed 50 years of marriage, her children, grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren…holiday gatherings were a big, big deal with 40 and more coming to the house; she loved her work. And she loved to take care of her family and she loved to cook, evidenced by the size of her family (numerically and size wise). And she loved watching movies... sometimes more than once, and she kept a room full of salt and pepper shakers. Wanda lived on this earth a full life and is in the fullness of life with Christ forever. Wanda was a member of the Living Oaks Baptist Church in Tulsa.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack, who went to be with the lord in 2003; her brothers, John and Bobby Rutherford; her sisters, Betty Harris, Patsy Tyler, Evelyn Rutherford, Anna Wise; her granddaughters, Karen Bussell and Kimberly Turner; and her grandson, Gene Bussell.
Wanda is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; and other nieces, nephews and cousins, and by numerous friends.
Wanda Turner touched many lives in a great way, she wanted to take care of you. She had a smile, a good meal and lots of love to share. She touched lives because her life had been touched by the family she grew up in, by her husband and children, but most important, her life was touched, transformed and saved by Jesus Christ. Of all that she leaves behind and there is much, the greatest legacy is a life lived for Jesus. She put her trust in Him, she loves the lord and wanted to live for Him, and wanted others…including all her family…to come to Jesus.
Visitation will be held 12:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, April 1, 2014 with family to greet from6:00-8:00 PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
