Lorenzo Dow Boatman was born in Sullivan County, Indiana, and lived in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. Lorenzo wrote to his brother, from Iowa Point, Doniphan County, Kansas,in June 1863, telling of some hangings of horse thieves, and the selling of his horse for $70.in gold, etc.

On May 29, 1873, Lorenzo and Eliza signed a mortgage deed to John Wesley Boatman, for $800., in Nehama County, Nebraska. The same land was then sold to Elias Barker, in October. This land was north and west of Barada, Nehama County. Lorenzo and family are listed in the 1880 and 1900 census of Richardson County, Nebraska.

Lorenzo and Eliza Jane Tankersley were married on December 16, 1852, recorded at Knox County, Indiana. There were five children. Lorenzo served in Company D, 10th Company Kansas Infantry. Grand Old Army of the Republic, and applied for pension on August 9, 1879, stating that he was an invalid. Eliza Jane applied for pension, on January 9, 1908, receiving benefits until her death, on October 05,1910.
