CORTLAND - Catherine Louise Baughman, 76, of Cortland, entered into eternal rest at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, S.C.

She was born May 8, 1937, in Gassaway, W.Va., the daughter of the late Everett Lee and Hazel Slaughter Keener, and formerly lived in Sutton, W.Va.

Mrs. Baughman was a 1955 graduate of Howland High School. She worked as a housekeeper after retiring from K-Mart Corp. She loved playing canasta, cooking and gardening.

She will be remembered by many for her generosity and willingness to assist those in need.

Cathy was married Dec. 6, 1960, to Willis Dean Baughman, and together they shared 49 years of marriage. Willis preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2010.

She is survived by two children, Julie (Scott) Murray of Chapin, S.C., and Robert Baughman of Cortland; and one very special granddaughter, Amanda M. Murray.

Besides her husband and parents, Cathy was preceded in death by her stepmother, Elizabeth Myers Keener; a brother, James Lee Keener; and two sisters, Mary Kovac and Dorthea Anne Keener.

Calling hours will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Fr. Bernard R. Schmalzried officiating.

Burial will follow in Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.

The family suggests that material contributions may be made in Cathy's name to the Palmetto Health Foundation-Trauma Fund.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the physicians and staff of Palmetto Health Richland's Trauma Team for the loving kindness shown to Cathy during her extended stay.
