~Anna Mae "May" Smith Michael Greig~

Anna Mae was born in Iowa to Ezra M. Smith and Martha Johnson Smith in 1875. In 1880 the family was living in Washington, Missouri, and by 1885 had moved to Mission, Kansas.

Her siblings were:

Alice Smith, 1861 – 1863
Daniel Johnson Smith 1862 –
M. Ellsworth Smith - 1867 – 1869
Elsa Sarah Smith 1870 –
Homer Dowlap Smith 1872 – 1876
Weston Homer Smith - 1878 –

She married Oly Guy "O. G." Michael on January 27, 1894, in Newkirk, "K" County (later named Kay County), Oklahoma Territory, USA. They were married by B. N. Woodson, Probate Judge of Kay County. They later lived in Indiana and North Dakota.

Their children were:
Cora Frances Michael
Charles Robert Michael
Edith Pearl Michael
Lawrence Guy Michael aka Lawrence Guy "Mike" Greig

After the death of O. G., Anna Mae married William Greig,

Anna Mae worked as a cook and housekeeper in Canada and the US. At the time of her passing, she was a widow and had been working as a contract cook in the oil fields at Bairoil, Wyoming. She lived in and worked out of a cook wagon. According to stories my grandfather shared, she was a fiercely strong and independent woman, who did what she had to do to provide for her family.

The following obituary notice is from an old clipping I found. It does not identify the newspaper, but was likely from Rawlins:

Mrs. Anna Mae Greig, 58, of Bairoil, passed away Monday morning at one o'clock at the Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist church. Arrangements were by Collins-Franks Mortuary.
