Born in Elk Twp., he was a lifelong resident of the Glassboro area. Graduating from Glassboro High School, he joined the U.S. Navy January 11, 1943 (one of the Great Generation) and served in the South Pacific on the USS Braine. Jack was awarded the following medals: Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 4 stars, American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 stars before being discharged on January 14, 1946. Jack was employed as an Operator for E.I. duPont in Paulsboro for 37 years. He enjoyed his home, his garden and working in the yard and was a member of the USS Braine Reunion Group.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Anna M. Harris nee Johnson; nieces, Audeen Ware Conklin, Sandra Schepacarter, Dorothy Rutman; nephew, Gus Johnson; many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service, with Rev. Bill Dilks officiating, on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at 11:00 AM in the MATHIS FUNERAL HOME, 43 N. Delsea Drive, Glassboro, NJ, where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Manahath Cemetery, Glassboro. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Highland Park Church of God, 111 Baynes Avenue, Gloucester, NJ 08030.
